Spirit of Kansas

Tuesday, July 4

Spirit of Kansas Fireworks Display starts at 10 p.m. at Lake Shawnee on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 Topeka Metro buses begin running shuttles at 6 p.m. from Rueger Sports Complex, 2801 S. Kansas Ave., to Lake Shawnee. Six buses will be involved in the shuttles. There is NO COST to ride the shuttle on July 4th. One bus will be available at 6 p.m., two more at 7 p.m., and three buses at 8 p.m.–all leaving from Rueger Sports Complex. Scouts from Jayhawk Area Council will direct traffic for patrons who drive their own vehicles to the lake. Signs will also mark free parking areas. No fireworks or alcoholic beverages are allowed at Lake Shawnee. Roads into the lake will be closed at 8 p.m., so patrons wishing to view the fireworks should arrive before then.

The Topeka Blues Society (TBS) once again presents the 8th Annual Spirit of Kansas Blues Festival on Tuesday, the 4th of July, at Reynolds Lodge, Lake Shawnee, in Topeka. Opening ceremonies begin shortly before 11:00 a.m., and music continues until dark. A spectacular fireworks display then lights up the sky, sponsored by Capitol-Federal Savings & Loan. FREE admission!

Attendees may bring shade tents (there will be a designated area), coolers/food, blankets and chairs. Food Trucks and Arts & Crafts vendors are in the area.
