TOPEKA, KAN. –  An asphalt reclamation and paving project beginning Aug. 5 will close a portion of East Edge Road and a portion of the Lake Shawnee Trail. Phase I of the project is from SE 45th Street to the Lake Shawnee Golf Course. The closure is anticipated to last two weeks. It will require temporarily moving the entrance to the golf course about 100 yards to the north of current course entrance on East Edge Road. The golf course will be accessible from East Edge Road off of Croco Road or from SE 37th Street off of Croco Road during this time.

Phase II of the project will be from SE 37th Street to the stopping point from Phase I and is expected to last two weeks. During this phase, the normal entry to the golf course will be accessible from 45th street only.

Each phase of the project is expected to last two weeks, weather permitting. For the duration of the project, barricades will be placed on the Lake Shawnee Trail from SE 37th to SE 45th as the trail will be inaccessible where the it crosses the street. During the project, the present asphalt surface will be ground up and incorporated into a base for a new four-inch hot asphalt cap.

The $361,277 project is being done by Bettis Asphalt and Construction.
