Seasonal attractions go to weekends only starting Aug. 10

TOPEKA, KAN. – With school starting, Shawnee County Parks Recreation’s seasonal attractions go to a weekends only schedule beginning Aug. 10. The following is a schedule for various attractions:

  • Aquatic Centers and Pools: Aug. 11 is the last day for aquatic centers and swimming pools except for Midwest Health Aquatic Center which will remain open weekends through Labor Day.
  • Gage park Carousel and Mini-Train: The carousel and mini-train will remain open weekends through Oct. 27.
  • Lake Shawnee Adventure Cove: The Lake Shawnee Adventure Cove will remain open weekends through Sept. 15.
  • Dornwood and Jackson Spray Parks remain open all week long through Oct. 1.

Shawnee County Parks Recreation includes nearly 60 miles of trails, 2,625 acres of parks and 320 annual days of sporting activities. In addition, the department offers recreation programs, educational programs and golf. A combination of tax dollars, user fees and private donations enables Shawnee County Parks and Recreation to offer parks, sporting and aquatic facilities with state-of-the-art features, and beautiful, nationally recognized gardens.
