SE 45th Street and section of Lake Shawnee Trail closed for construction

Topeka, Kan. –Beginning Monday, February 8th, SE 45th Street from approximately 900 west of the intersection with West Edge / Berryton Road to approximately 300 feet east of the intersection with East Edge Road will be CLOSED TO THROUGH TRAFFIC for the reconstruction of SE 45th Street.  Due to the closure of both intersections, there will be no direct access to Lake Shawnee property from either 45th Street or Berryton Road.  Local access to homes within the project limits will be maintained.

 SE 45th Street will reopen to unrestricted traffic on or before Friday, December 3, 2021.

 A SIGNED DETOUR will be provided.

TRAIL CLOSURE: This construction will also reconstruct a portion of the pedestrian trail around Lake Shawnee. This section of trail will be closed during the reconstruction. A pedestrian detour will NOT be provided

 The $4,486,523 project will include construction of the following:

  • A single-lane roundabout at the intersection West Edge / Berryton Road and SE 45th Street
  • Two bridge sized structures
  • A ten foot wide multi-use path on the north side of 45th Street
  • A standard five foot wide sidewalk on the south side of 45th Street
  • Reconfiguration of 45th Street to include curb & gutter and a continuous center left-turn lane

Hamm, Inc. of Perry, KS is the prime contractor.

SE 45th Street will reopen to unrestricted traffic on or before Friday, December 3, 2021.
