TOPEKA, KAN. – Weather permitting, the winter stocking of trout at Lake Shawnee is set for Feb. 24. The public may view the trout stocking at 3 p.m., Fri., Feb. 24 at the main boat ramp at Lake Shawnee as 7,000 pounds of rainbow trout will be released into the lake. Following the stocking, the lake will be closed until 6 a.m. March 4 to allow the fish time to disperse and acclimate to their new surroundings.
The stocking is done in partnership with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks as part of the Communities Fisheries Assistance Program. Trout season runs through April 15, 2023. During this time, anglers must have a $14.50 trout permit. Trout permits may be purchased at most locations where fishing licenses are sold or online.
