Due to the forecasted extreme weather many of our community centers serve as designated warming centers. This policy aims to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals who need relief from extreme temperatures. These practices go into effect when the wind chill is expected to fall below 10 degrees Fahrenheit for two consecutive days.
Designated Facilities
The following County facilities, which are heated and have public access to restrooms, water fountains, and sitting areas, will serve as warming centers during normal operating hours:
- Hillcrest Community Center
- Crestview Community Center
- Oakland Community Center
- Central Park Community Center
- Garfield Community Center
- Shawnee North Community Center
These facilities will be open to the public during their regular hours of operation to provide relief from extreme temperatures.
