Overview

The 9.9-miles of Dornwood Nature Trails are located in southeast Topeka and is accessible from a trailhead on SE 25th Street, east of California Avenue. The trail has evolved over many years from prairie to hardwood forest. Several trails meander along Deer Creek in heavily forested, rolling terrain. Near the trailhead the remnants of old stone dairy buildings can be seen. On the south side of the park, the trails meet the paved Deer Creek Trail which runs south through Robinson Family Park. The trails also wide open prairie grasses. On the northwest side of the park the trail rolls along high banks above Deer Creek.

Shawnee County Parks + Recreation partners with the Kansas Trails Council to build and maintain nature trails including Dornwood Nature Trails. KTC volunteers put in hundreds of hours building and maintaining trails for the enjoyment of our patrons. For more information on Kansas Trails visit www.getoutdoorskansas.org/trails.
