Summer issue of The Guide now online

TOPEKA, KAN. – The Summer issue of Shawnee County Parks + Recreation’s The Guide is now online at The issue features the May 28 date for opening pools and aquatic centers, the dates for summer sports league registration, the summer calendar of events which includes the Spirit of Kansas 5K and 10K Water Walks at Shawnee North Family Aquatic Center and Concerts in the Park. The Guide also includes recreational programs for preschool, youth, adults and seniors.

In mid-April, The Guide will be available in print at SCP+R community centers, the Topeka Shawnee County Public Library and select grocery stores.


Shawnee County Parks + Recreation includes nearly 60 miles of trails, 2,696 acres of parks and 320 annual days of sporting activities. In addition, the department offers recreation programs, educational programs and golf. A combination of tax dollars, user fees and private donations enables Shawnee County Parks and Recreation to offer parks, sporting and aquatic facilities with state-of-the art features, and beautiful, nationally recognized gardens.
